Nursery

Our nursery welcomes children from the term after their third birthday until they are ready to start school in Reception. We have two Nursery classes: Cherry class (all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning) and Pear class (Wednesday afternoon, all day Thursday and Friday). We also offer full-time Nursery places for children who are eligible for the 30 hours entitlement.

Children in Nursery follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. There are seven areas of learning:

The Prime Areas (these are particularly important for your child's development and future learning and are the main focus in Nursery)

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Communication and Language (CL)
  • Physical Development (PD)

The Specific Areas (the prime areas are strengthened and applied through these areas)

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The EYFS framework identifies three characteristics of effective teaching and learning:

  • Playing and Exploring
  • Active Learning
  • Creating and Thinking Critically

We give priority to creating an exciting learning environment for our nursery children. We want children to learn through purposeful, practical activities, so we take great care to provide a wealth of opportunities both indoors and out, for children to explore and investigate the world about them.

In Nursery, all adults take care to develop warm and nurturing relationships with the children in their care. We prioritise high quality interactions between children and adults working in Nursery; allowing your child to extend their vocabulary and develop their communication skills further. The EYFS framework identifies the essential role of play in your child’s development. It is through both child-led play and play guided by an adult that your child will develop confidence and relationships with others.

In Nursery our main aim is to help every child flourish and blossom, giving them the best start in their journey at All Saints.
