Languages
‘To learn a language is to have one more window to look at the world’
Chinese proverb
Our intent is for all learners at All Saints’ to unite through their love of languages. Within our walls, our learners and their families collectively speak over 40 different languages, which we celebrate together. Our current MFL teaching is French, and it is our intention that the skills, knowledge and understanding the children gain will contribute to their language development and to their understanding of how important and different each culture is.
Our school provides language learning in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Each lesson is taught on a weekly basis. The teachers plan their lessons in line with the Language Angles work scheme. This ensures that each year group gets taught a different range of subjects / topics. The scheme of work is fully mapped to the KS2 Programme of Study for foreign languages. Every lesson has a range of fun, interactive games to help children build listening and reading skills.
At our school, children build confidence in using the language. The impact is measured through quizzing, games and pupil voice. Through high quality teaching, children will understand and respond to spoken and written language. Children will speak with increasing confidence when asked questions or during discussion. This will help with accuracy of pronunciation.
