On Friday, 450 children from All Saints gathered to mark 100 years since the end of the great war. 2 children recited the poem ‘In Flanders Field’, the children sang a specially composed song; ‘Remember’, and observed a 1 minute’s silence. Derek Jones, Curate of the Parish of All Saints, Horton finished the ceremony with a prayer. In the days running up to the ceremony, children had learnt about the Great War , wrote prayers and poems, and made hand-crafted poppies to decorate the school.
John Davie, head teacher said ‘the children responded thoughtfully and respectfully to the remembrance ceremony. Our children’s families come from all round the world but the desire for peace and respect for those who have fought for our freedom is something that every child at All Saints feels is important. Our church’s curate Derek Jones was extremely impressed by how the children responded.’
